Welcome to Year 5
Our class teachers are Mr Popple and Mrs Wheatley. Mrs Reedman and Mrs Carter also teach us on Friday afternoons.
They are supported by Miss Higgins and Miss Davies.
In Year 5 we enjoy a varied curriculum. So far this year we have we have learnt lots of interesting things about the Vikings and Mayans. Did you know the Vikings were pagans, which means they believed in lots of different Gods? Also they didn't really have horns on their helmets, that was just for ceremonies. Imagine how hard it would have been to get through doors. As part of our topic we got the chance to visit Jorvik Viking museum in York. We went on an amazing ride, which told us what life was like in a Viking town. We even got to see the worlds biggest fossilised poo!!!
This term we are learning about different climates and Space. We get to use lots of exciting stuff to help with our learning. In ICT and geography we have been using ipads to help us with our research about climates around the world. Soon we will be having a visit from pole star planetarium, so we can discover lots of new things about our solar system. Did you know if you tried to count all of the stars in the sky, it would take you 3000 years?
We get to do lots of learning outside of the classroom as well. Last term we were lucky enough to take part in a dance project run by Leeds Beckett University and we had the opportunity to perform in the 'Grand Hall'. This term we are even getting to go and use the climbing wall at our local high school and we will soon be taking part in the 'go givers' project, where we will support a charity of our choice.
Come visit soon!!!
