School Vision and Values
At Hollybush Primary School, we are proud of our child-centred approach to education, where every child is recognised as a unique individual with their own strengths, needs, and aspirations. Our vision is to be better than good, and this drives us to provide a high-quality learning experience that nurtures ambition, inspires creativity, and promotes personal growth. We personalise learning so that each child can thrive, acquire knowledge, and develop understanding in a way that suits them best. Our dedicated team works hard to ensure all pupils feel valued, supported, and inspired every day.
Our learning environments reflect our belief in creating a community where everyone feels safe and valued. Across school, classrooms and shared spaces are calm, clean, and purposeful—designed to reduce cognitive overload and encourage focus and wellbeing. In Early Years, indoor and outdoor provision is rich, consistent, and thoughtfully planned to allow children to explore, revisit, and deepen learning through play and curiosity. Through this, we help children build resilience, develop a love of learning, and feel enthusiastic about their progress. Our displays celebrate achievements big and small, reinforcing our commitment to recognise and honour each child’s journey.
At the heart of our practice is a commitment to treat others as we would like to be treated. Strong, trusting relationships underpin all learning. From Early Years key worker bonds to respectful adult-child interactions across school, we build a foundation of mutual respect, honesty, and compassion. We model and encourage high-quality talk to support thinking and emotional expression. Through structured discussion strategies and inclusive communication, children learn to listen, articulate, negotiate, and problem-solve—essential skills for becoming active and positive citizens.
Our curriculum is designed with purpose and clarity. In every lesson, teachers share clear learning intentions, model thinking, and provide opportunities for practice and feedback. This structure supports all children to aim high and experience success. In Early Years, ‘in the moment’ planning captures children’s natural curiosity, while in Key Stages 1 and 2, guided and independent practice develops mastery. We intentionally build in opportunities to revisit learning, enabling children to embed core skills and transfer knowledge to new situations. Through encouragement and support, children develop confidence, independence, and a belief that they can achieve.
We are an inclusive school that adapts teaching to ensure every pupil can succeed. High expectations for all are matched with strong support—through pre-teaching, scaffolding, targeted intervention, and the use of carefully chosen resources. Technology is used purposefully to enhance, not replace, the hands-on, sensory experiences that children need to make sense of their world. In every moment of learning, adults offer feedback that is timely, respectful, and constructive, helping children to reflect, improve, and celebrate their achievements.
At Hollybush, we strive to grow not just learners, but kind, compassionate, and resilient individuals. We actively teach strategies to help children manage emotions, resolve conflict, and care for others. Through the Zones of Regulation, restorative practice, and consistent routines, we foster emotional intelligence and personal responsibility. By aiming high and nurturing a culture of creativity, enthusiasm, and celebration, we equip children with the tools they need to succeed—not just in school, but in life. We are not just teaching lessons—we are shaping futures and building a community rooted in trust, kindness, and ambition.
